(Perinatal Substance Abuse Initiative/Assessment and Coordination Team
  

 

The Perinatal Substance Abuse Service Initiative/Assessment and Coordination Team (also known as ACT) is a home visitation case management  program for substance abusing and/or HIV infected pregnant women and their families.  ACT also serves pregnant women who have a history of drug or alcohol abuse that are but not currently abusing.   Services are available during pregnancy and through six to twelve months postpartum.  

Orange County Public Health Nurses teach provide education at clients' homes, at drug and alcohol treatment programs, and at shelters about effects of substance use on pregnant woman and the unborn child, sexually transmitted infections, women's health, child development, hazards of smoking,  domestic violence and abuse prevention, parenting, nutrition, family planning and immunization. ACT assesses physical and psychosocial health, helps women get and maintain   prenatal medical care, and enroll in drug and alcohol treatment programs, assists with transportation and securing housing and/or find ing finding a shelter. ACT charts the growth and development of babies postnatally (DDST II).

  • Pregnant women with history of or currently abusing drugs or alcohol
  • County-wide coverage
